Engineering insurance FAQs

Who buys contractor's all risk cover?

Either the project owner or the contractor, depending on the contract. The policy can name both as insured parties.

What is the difference between CAR and EAR?

CAR is for civil construction such as buildings and roads. EAR is for erecting and testing plant and machinery.

When does project cover end?

Usually at handover or at the end of the period in the policy, whichever comes first. You can ask for an extension if the project runs late.

What does boiler and machinery insurance cover?

Sudden and accidental breakdown of boilers, pressure plant and machinery, including explosion or collapse, as defined in the policy.

Is third-party liability included?

Many project policies offer it as a section of the cover. Check the limits in your schedule.
